Julia Schulte

I was 12 years old when my family moved from Germany to California. It was an exciting time, but also a painful and stressful one. Later, I was the first one in my family to go to college in the US. These learning experiences have shaped how I teach now: with empathy and flexibility. I've been teaching English and Composition classes at SF State for 6 years. I also teach writing classes at USF and Stanford, and sometimes I teach ESL classes at CCSF. I invite my students to think, talk, and write about issues that are important and interesting to them and to join ongoing conversations about these issues in real-world situations.
